Jon and Lyne Phipps and their daughter, Lonnie Burnam, came to Mountainair because they liked the area and the town of Mountainair. They are interested in arts and crafts, photography, computer graphics, digital photography, and web page development. Lyne will be teaching special education at the high school. Lyne is an Arizona native and has a career in education which spans 29 years at all grade levels. Jon is originally from Great Britain and immigrated to Canada with his parents when he was 4 years old. Lyne and Jon met online. Lonnie and Lyne were living in Australia at the time. Jon and Lyne fell in love, so Lyne and Lonnie moved to Canada. They loved it amidst the orca, eagles and other Canadian wildlife on Vancouver Island; however, the provincial government laid off 300 teachers just as Lyne obtained her certification . The family decided to move to the USA where Lyne was also certified. They first moved to the Navajo Reservation and were there for 3 1/2 years. They kept looking for the perfect spot for them to retire and they discovered the lovely town of Mountainair. Lyne interviewed at the high school and the family moved here on 1st June. She enjoyed getting acquainted with some of the staff and students whilst working with the summer school program this last June.
The family has a small photography hobby called Clix'N'Pix , they create note cards of the local area as well as national parks and monuments. Come and see them at their booth in Art Alley at Sunflower on 25th August. In addition, they have established the Estancia Valley Computer Instructors Association (EVCIA). Their instructors offer classes in computer basics, digital photography, creating e-books, Inspiration K-12, web mail, MS Office, computer maintenance and care, e-mail, Animation Shop and Paint Shop Pro. The association also offers in-home tutoring, small group instruction and technical support. La Luz Enterprises in Estancia, NM will be one venue of instruction as well.
